David McLellan is a London based artist, designer and technologist who explores the realms of interactivity, connectedness and interventions within the context of architectural spaces. He first trained as a photographer, has a BSc in Architecture from the University of East London, studied at the Bartlett School of Architecture and received an MA in Interactive Media from the University of the Arts London.
He combines interaction design, programming and engineering to create responsive environments and devices that explore the dynamic relation between architecture, people and technology. His work is concerned with the embedding of technology and sensory devices into our urban environments and how the incorporation of ubiquitous computing into our homes and places of work is creating architectural spaces that are becoming increasingly interconnected, sensory and responsive.
Working across a wide range of media, he employs technologies and theories from robotics, nature inspired computing, agent technologies and cybernetics to create installations and digital artefacts that investigate the development of these 'smart' environments, the resulting digital ecologies, how the human body will interact with these digitally mediated environments and how they will affect social interaction in the future.
He has taught video production, animation and programming and has been the recipient of funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
